Kris Humphries

Humphries was born in Minneapolis, MN to Debra and William Humphries. There, he joined his two older sisters, Krystal and Kaela, in the mixed race family. As a boy, Humphries starred in a different sport - swimming. He was actually the top 10-year-old in the nation in six events. In the remaining events, he was second to 18-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps. Humphries still holds the U.S. national record for the 50-meter freestyle for boys age 10 and under. At the age of 12, however, Humphries quit swimming to pursue basketball. That basketball career truly took off at Hopkins High School. In 2002, Humphries led his squad to its first Minnesota state championship in 49 years with a 25-2 record. As a reward, he was named a 2003 McDonald's All-American, Second Team All-USA (USA Today), Minnesota Mr. Basketball, as well as the state player of the year by the Minneapolis Star Tribune and College Basketball News. Humphries was also named to USA Today's Super 25 Basketball Team and was one of 10 finalists for the 2003 Naismith Prep Player of the Year. Although Humphries accepted a scholarship from Duke University, he ended up attending his hometown school, the University of Minnesota (also his father's alma mater), where he made an immediate impact on the hardwood. Humphries was named the 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and named to the All-Big Ten First Team. He was made an Honorable Mention All-American by both the Associated Press and Rivals.com. Humphries led the Big Ten in scoring and rebounding that first season, becoming the first freshman ever to do so. He even set the Minnesota single game scoring record with 36 points. Clearly, Kris Humphries was ready for the next level. In 2004, the Utah Jazz drafted Humphries with the 14th pick in the NBA Draft. He played there for two seasons before being traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2006, where he helped the team nab its first ever division title. However, in 2009 Humphries was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The following year he was once again traded, this time to the then New Jersey Nets. The year 2010 proved to be a big one for Humphries in several ways. Not only did he start to see success with the Nets, but he also began dating Kardashian. As a result, he often popped up on the E! network show, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" (2007-). The following year, they were engaged. On Aug. 20, 2011, the two were married after a much publicized media flurry. On Oct. 31, 2011 Kardashian filed for divorce. Many talking heads accused the marriage of being a sham and a publicity stunt. Their divorce was finalized in June 2013. Shortly thereafter, Humphries was traded to the Boston Celtics.
