Katie is less-than-thankful when her mom, Kathryn, shows up for Thanksgiving. But Katie's nemesis Viv helps ease the tension when she invites herself to dinner.

Katie and Greg throw themselves into PTA politics when they learn that Anna-Kat's special needs teacher, Dr. Ellie, has been cut from the school budget. Greg gets elected to the PTA, but Katie may not be able to keep her mouth in check long enough to win the votes they need.

In the series premiere, we meet Bob, who runs his family’s successful, highly competitive sock company with his mother, Dottie (series star CHRISTINE EBERSOLE), his sister, Christina (series star MARIBETH MONROE), and his younger brother, Douglas (series star MATT JONES). When the stress of the job lands him in the hospital, he meets Abishola, his kind, hard-working nurse whom he’s immediately drawn to. Now all Bob needs to do is convince her to give him a chance, which will take some doing since they couldn’t be more different. After coming to America from Nigeria to find a better life for her and her son, Dele (series star TRAVIS WOLFE, JR.), a straight-A student, Abishola lives in a small apartment with her super-protective relatives, Auntie Olu (series star SHOLA ADEWUSI) and Uncle Tunde (series star BARRY SHABAKA HENLEY). Abishola’s close friends include fellow nurse Gloria (series star VERNEE WATSON) and Kemi (series regular GINA YASHERE).

Bonnie and Adam go on a double date with Jill and Andy. Also, Tammy recruits Christy to mediate a sensitive situation with Marjorie.

The Otto children begin to experience struggles in their love lives after jumping into the dating world: Oliver is forced to choose between his girlfriend and his friend Cooper who come from two different worlds; Greg must play the bad cop parent to halt the PDA between Taylor and Trip; and Anna-Kat tries to make her relationship with Franklin official, without his consent.
