Kinuyo Tanaka
Kinuyo Tanaka was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. She continued to work steadily in film throughout the fifties and the sixties, appearing in "Miss Oyu" (1951), the Ichiro Sugai period drama "The Life of Oharu" (1952) and the drama "Ugetsu" (1953) with Machiko Kyo. She also appeared in "A Woman of Rumor" (1954), the drama "Behold Thy Son" (1957) with Chikage Awashima and the foreign "Ototo" (1960) with Keiko Kishi. Film continued to be her passion as she played roles in the drama "Ballad of Narayama" (1961) with Teiji Takahashi, the Masayuki Mori dramedy "Alone on the Pacific" (1963) and the Toshiro Mifune dramatic period piece "Red Beard" (1965). She also appeared in "Sansho the Bailiff" (1969) and "Bokyo" (1975). Tanaka was most recently credited in the Shin Saburi drama "Equinox Flower" (1990). Tanaka's husband was Hiroshi Shimizu. Tanaka passed away in March 1977 at the age of 68.
