Leslie (Amy Poehler) prepares a haunted house with Ben (Adam Scott), Ann (Rashida Jones) and Chris (Rob Lowe) for Halloween on the day of the recall vote. Meanwhile, Tom (Aziz Ansari) fears the end of Rent-A-Swag and persuades Ron (Nick Offerman) to help save his business.

Earl is still lying in the middle of the road next to Billie, both of whom are unconscious after being hit by a car. The accident puts Earl in a coma and takes him to an alternate world in the form of a sitcom. Meanwhile, Randy, Darnell, Joy and Catalina begin doing whatever they can to ensure Earl lives. After several attempts, Earl continues to be stuck in a fevered state and is visited by Paris Hilton in his dream. The group realizes they are all out ideas and turn to their last option, a little boy that can cure everything with his finger. The boy refuses to help because he thinks Joy has the devil on her side, so Darnell and Randy try to prove to him that she does not. Has Earl's bad karma gotten the best of him? Will he find the strength to survive his coma?

George must help Ernie lose weight before Mel Powers (recurring guest star MARK TYMCHYSHYN) fires him. Eventually, all of his friends get involved in helping Ernie become healthier, but not until they realize the emotional reasons for his overeating can they really make progress.

It's near midnight and a street musician is getting ready to go home. Unfortunately, it's not the musician's night. As he walks down a dark alley, an attacker emerges and whacks him over the head with a tire iron. But the attacker is not finished. He proceeds to suffocate, poison, stab, shoot, and crush the musician, killing the victim six different ways in all. The man who killed the street musician left a note identifying himself as the "Six-Way Killer," and the note promises that he will strike again in 36 hours. The federal government is taking over the case, and the Deputy Police Commissioner orders Stottlemeyer, Disher, and Monk to assist the man in charge of the federal investigation, Agent Thorpe.

Lilly and Valens head to West Virginia to retrieve a primary suspect for the 2007 presumed homicide of a young woman abducted from the parking lot outside her engagement party.
