Singer and songwriter Khalid embarked on a successful music career at a young age. Born Khalid Amhearst Robinson in Beirut, Lebanon, he had the opportunity to grow up all over the world, thanks to his mother's military career. Khalid graduated from Americas High School in El Paso, Texas, in 2016, the same year that he reached No. 2 on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists chart with his song "Location." The song generated an enormous amount of buzz, earning Khalid praise from Buzzfeed and Yahoo as well as "Rolling Stone" magazine. "Location" also charted at No. 20 for the year on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and appeared in January 2017 at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart. The song has been certified platinum by RIAA and has also garnered over 6 million views on YouTube and 17 million plays on Soundcloud, and has been streamed more than 35 million times on Spotify. Khalid won the VMA award for Best New Artist in 2017. His song "Angels" was featured on a 2017 episode of "Grey's Anatomy." His follow-up song "Young Dumb and Broke" has also been certified platinum by RIAA and reached No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the Hot R&B chart. His 2017 tour sold out across the U.S., and he has been featured on such songs as "Electric" with Alina Baraz, "Rollin" with Calvin Harris and Future, and "Homemade Dynamite" with Lorde, Post Malone, and SZA.
