Katrina Kaif

The daughter of a British mother and Indian father, Katrina Kaif spent most of her childhood living in Europe, Asia and the United States. Her family settled in Hawaii when she was a teen, and it was there that a modeling agent discovered Katrina. Before long she was modeling professionally in London, while also moonlighting as an actress. Her first film appearance was in the 2003 British action film "Boom," which was an absolute failure both financially and critically. Determined to make it as an actress, Katrina moved to India where she began auditioning for major Bollywood movies. However, producers were initially reluctant to hire Kaif in their films, seeing that she was not a native Hindi speaker (Kaif's first language is English). With that in mind, Kaif began to work tirelessly on perfecting her Hindi, and eventually started landing roles in major Bollywood movies. From 2005 to 2011 she appeared in nearly two-dozen films, among them "Namestey London" (2007), "Race" (2008) and "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan," (2011), the vast majority of which were successes at the box office. In 2012 Kaif appeared in the blockbuster action film, "Ek Tha Tiger." The film was a smash hit, second only to the Indian comedy "3 Idiots" (2009) in terms of overall sales. The film is also notable for starring Kaif's ex-boyfriend Salman Khan, who Kaif admitted to dating for several years prior to their 2010 break-up. Kaif made the record books once again in the 2012 romantic drama, "Jab Tak Hai Jaan," becoming Bollywood's third highest grossing movie overseas, and thus further cementing Katrina Kaif's status as one of the most commercially successful actresses in Bollywood history.
