J.P. McGowan

J.P. McGowan always looked at the world in a creative way, and it transferred to his impeccable eye as a director. McGowan worked on a variety of projects during his early entertainment career, including "Do or Die" (1921), "Elmo, the Fearless" (1920) and "The Girl and the Game" (1915). He also contributed to "The Hazards of Helen" (1914), "The Lost Express" (1917) and "The Railroad Raiders" (1917). He kept working in film throughout the twenties and the thirties, starring in "Below the Deadline" (1929), "Pioneers of the West" (1929) and the Jack Perrin western "Plunging Hoofs" (1929). Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in "No More Women" (1934), the Tom Tyler adventure "The Fighting Hero" (1934) and the Randolph Scott western "Wagon Wheels" (1934). He also appeared in the James Ellison western "Bar 20 Rides Again" (1935) and "The Outlaw Tamer" (1935) with Lane Chandler. McGowan last directed the western "Where the West Begins" (1938) with Jack Randall. McGowan was married to Helen Holmes. McGowan passed away in March 1952 at the age of 72.
