Joseph Mawle

Joseph Mawle

Born to a small-town farmer and teacher, diagnosed with dyslexia in his early teens, and contracting labyrinthitis (leading to partial deafness and tinnitus) just a few years later, there were no shortcuts for Joseph Mawle. Mawle eventually secured a scholarship to Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, but upon graduating he still found acting opportunities scarce--until 2006 when a deaf actor was needed for a starring role in the television movie "Soundproof." Mawle portrayed a man defending himself against murder charges, and earned an RTS Television Awards nomination for a Breakthrough performance. He has the odd distinction of playing both Jesus and Judas, in BBC's "The Passion" and in the off-Broadway production "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" respectively.
