Jon Garaño

Writer and director Jon Garaño was born in San Sebastián, Spain. He studied journalism and advertising at San Diego State University before forming Moriarti, a film and advertising production company with a few fellow directors in Spain. After making a number of short films and documentaries for television, Garaño teamed up with fellow filmmaker Jose Maria Goenaga to write and direct their first fictional feature length film, "For 80 Days" ("80 Egunean") (2010). The unconventional drama follows the relationship of two seventy-year-old women, close friends as youths, who reconnect and reimagine their relationships fifty years later. "For 80 Days" played at festivals worldwide and was rewarded with largely positive reviews, but the film never received a theatrical release outside of Spain. After making a few short films, Garaño again teamed with Goenaga, this time for another complex drama, "Loreak" ("Flowers") (2014). This story follows three women who were all recipients of flowers from the same man. When the man dies in a car accident, the three women connect in unexpected ways. The film was critically acclaimed and won or was nominated for a number of awards at festivals. It was nominated for Best Film at the 2015 Goya Awards in Spain.
