Joanna Miles

Joanna Miles's most famous and twice-Emmy-winning performance was as Laura Wingfield in the 1973 television film adaptation of Tennessee Williams's "The Glass Menagerie." Laura is the mentally delicate and slightly physically disabled daughter of the central protagonist, Amanda, played by Katharine Hepburn, who is a bit overbearing and over-protective. In another film adapted from a play, "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead," starring Tim Roth and Gary Oldman in the title roles, Miles plays Gertrude, the mother of Hamlet, who is concerned with her son's strange behavior in response to her quick marriage to Hamlet's uncle, her deceased husband's brother. Later the same year, on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Miles had a twice-recurring character as the second (and human) wife, Perrin, of Spock's Vulcan father, Sarek. In the 1990s and 2000s, aside from appearing on small recurring (but mostly one-off) roles on television shows, many of them soap operas, Miles also made a few minor appearances in film. In the big-budget action movie based on the comic book "Judge Dredd," Miles played Judge Evelyn McGruder, who prosecutes Dredd (played by Sylvester Stallone) for murder.
