JimMyron Ross

Ross was raised by his mother, Sicki, in Canton, MS. He first gained knowledge of the independent feature "Ballast," which was shooting on location in the Delta area, through his local Boys and Girls Club in 2006, and signed up to audition for the sheer novelty of the idea. To his surprise, he landed the film's key role of James, a young man whose life echoed his own - a Mississippi local raised by a single mother - though with a streak of desperation and aimlessness that Ross thankfully lacked. Teetering on the edge of criminal activity, James unexpectedly enters the orbit of Lawrence (Micheal Smith, Jr.), a grief-stricken man with a connection to his mother (Tarra Riggs). The duo forms the nucleus of an unlikely family when James' mother unexpectedly moves in with Lawrence and lays claim to half of his property.Critics were nearly unanimous in their praise for "Ballast," which received a theatrical release in 2008. They were most effusive about Ross, who was 14 at the time of its release, as was the Independent Spirit Award committee, which bestowed a nomination for Best Supporting Male Actor upon him in 2008. Despite the worldwide attention afforded him by the film's release, Ross continued to maintain a decidedly normal teenage life, which included playing free safety on his high school football team.
