Jekalyn Carr
Jekalyn CarrAmerican gospel singer-songwriter Jakalyn Carr was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Her interest in music began at an early age, as she began singing in her church's choir at just 5 years old. She was mostly self-taught and became the main chorister for her congregation, which led to her being called to serve in ministry at age 11. Her debut into the music industry came only a few years later as a teenager, when one of her singles debuted on Billboard's Gospel Music Top Ten. For her work, she received a Stellar Award at just 16, and went on to become the first gospel artist to be inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has since received a Lifetime Achievement Award and appeared in several productions, such as the movies "Favorite Son Christmas" (2023) and "Praise This" (2023), as well as in the reality series "Young & Gospel" (OWN, 2023-24).
