Javier Mariscal
Javier Mariscal is a Spanish artist and graphic designer. He studied design in Barcelona in the 1970s and eventually got sucked into working on alternative comics as well as other artistic pursuits. His reputation grew considerably during this period and by the end of the 1980s, Mariscal was asked to design the mascot for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Although the mascot, Cobi the sheepdog, went on to become a huge success, it was considered controversial at the time because it was viewed as too stylish. Mariscal's work has predominantly been graphic design work for large municipal projects and contract work for advertising, but he's occasionally moved into the realm of film and television. In 1989, he worked as the set designer on the Spanish game show " Juego de niños." He also worked on the 1996 comedy show "Una piraña en el bide," and in the second season of the UK version of "Big Brother," a chair of his own design featured prominently in an episode. His most notable film credits, however, are his collaborations with director Fernando Trueba for the live-action documentary on Brazilian music, "Miracle of Candeal," and for the animated film "Chico and Rita." The latter film is Mariscal's most significant work, as he both co-directed and designed it.
