In the season premiere, as the Sheldon Jin murder investigation moves forward, Voight (Jason Beghe) is under close watch by Internal Affairs but he’s still in complete command of the intelligence unit. A routine undercover job becomes anything but when Voight’s SUV is T-boned while trailing an armored car carrying Ruzek (Patrick Flueger). At District, Burgess (Marina Squerciati) meets her new partner, Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty) and tension is high from the start. Soon she realizes there’s more to his story. After a long day, Lindsay pays a visit to someone she hasn't seen in a very long time -- her mom, Bunny (guest star Markie Post). Jon Seda, Jesse Lee Soffer, Elias Koteas, LaRoyce Hawkins and Amy Morton also star. Stella Maeve, Robert Ray Wisdom and Ian Bowen guest star.

The bounty on Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) head becomes a serious reality as an innocent bartender takes a bullet meant for him. Olinsky (Elias Koteas) tries to reason with Bembenek (guest star Jason Singer) to call off the hit, to no avail. Voight (Jason Beghe) and the team keep this investigation in-house to find the hired assassin. Meanwhile, after a tense interaction at district Platt (Amy Morton) and Nadia (guest star Stella Maeve) come to an understanding. Eaten up by his guilt over Flaco's death in the fire, Cruz goes to Casey to confess. While Shay recovers from a head injury sustained in the ambulance crash, Severide asks Dawson for her help in dealing with his own injury. Casey is caught in the middle of a family conflict between his mother and sister. Elsewhere, Herrmann finds a business deal hard to stomach.

Boden takes a big step in the pursuit of a major career decision. Kidd becomes increasingly distrustful of Renee's (guest star Sarah Shahi) motives with Severide. Herrmann has trouble bouncing back after a tragedy.

Sarah accompanies Kitty to Senator McAllister's hometown in preparation for his upcoming campaign, where they meet his high school sweetheart Alice, and attend a party with them.
