Jane Espenson

Jane Espenson is a television writer and producer who has contributed to three of the most praised shows of the 1990s and 2000s, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Gilmore Girls," and the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica." The Iowa native won a Walt Disney writer's fellowship while in grad school at the University of California at Berkeley, and got her first substantive Hollywood gigs as the story editor on forgotten Jere Burns/Mel Harris romantic sitcom "Something So Right," as well as on the final season of "Ellen." She transitioned to drama when she landed a job at Joss Whedon's Mutant Enemy production company in time for the third season of "Buffy." Espenson ended up writing 23 "Buffy"s, including the Hugo-winning "Conversations With Dead People," and would also contribute scripts to Whedon shows "Angel," "Firefly," and "Dollhouse." The latter starred Eliza Dushku, who played rogue slayer Faith on "Buffy" and "Angel"; Epsenson also served as co-executive producer on the second season of Dushku's non-Whedon series, "Tru Calling." Espenson wrote a season three script for "Battlestar Galactica" and came aboard full time for the show's fourth and final season; she also executive produced BSG prequel "Caprica," as well as co-creating fellow Syfy Channel series "Warehouse 13."
