Hines Ward
In the spring of 2006, Ward returned to his birthplace of Seoul for the first time since he was an infant. During his stay, he attended several meetings, where he and various community leaders engaged in what he referred to as "hope sharing" discussions. Before leaving the country, he donated $1 million U.S. dollars to create the Hines Ward Helping Hands Foundation, an organization to help mixed-race children who have long suffered from discrimination in South Korean society. That fall, he began hosting the "Hines Ward Show" on a local CBS-owned television station. In September 2010, President Obama named Ward as a member of the President's Advisory Commission on Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders. He returned to the big game yet again in early 2011 for Super Bowl XLV, where he and the Steelers suffered a tough loss late in the game to a determined Green Bay Packers team. Rather than nurse his wounds in solitude, the always outgoing Hines instead chose to join the latest batch of celebrity contestants on the 12th season of the popular dance competition "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2005-).
