Hemky Madera

A loved and respected character actor both in the United States and abroad, Hemky Madera was born in Queens, New York. When he was just two months old, Madera's parents returned with him to their home country of the Dominican Republic, and there Madera spent his childhood and adolescence. After graduating from high school, he made the decision to pursue his interest in acting, taking a memorable class with renowned Dominican director Alfonso Rodriguez. Before long, Madera was appearing on Dominican television, but he was not satisfied with this accomplishment for long. His horizons ever widening, Madera soon decided to move to the U.S., where he began taking acting classes at The Actor's Studio, and eventually became a key player at New York's Inverse Theater. He broke into stateside on-screen acting in 2004 with an appearance on an episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (NBC, 2001-2011), and by the following year he was appearing alongside Andy Garcia in the film "The Lost City" (2005). Madera's profile was raised considerably when he took on the role of Ignacio on the series "Weeds" (Showtime, 2005-2011) in 2008, and still further when he began playing the recurring role of Brujo on the series "Ash vs Evil Dead" (Starz!, 2015-). The following year, Madera took on the co-starring role of Bote Galvez on the acclaimed series "Queen of the South" (USA, 2016-).
