Officer Nate Kendall (guest star Wentworth Miller) aids a woman in trouble and becomes roped into solving a rape case. While Detectives Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) believe that Kendall is not right for the case due to his unstable personality, Executive ADA Sonya Paxton (guest star Christine Lahti) joins the team, bringing evidence of a common thread among three other rape cases. With Paxton’s help, the team might expose a serial rapist. Emily Milius (Deja Kreutzberg) is out of her element, a Park Avenue private school rich girl in Washington Heights. Exiting a diner after she is "stood up" she is hit by a blue Saturn and killed. It's obvious this was no accident -- based on the tire marks the car was gunning for her. Emily's parents are horrified; she was a perfect student and had a bright future. The Saturn is found abandoned and the driver, Danny Payton, is later found dead. Emily's father, Ronald (Martin Kildare) owns a pharmaceutical company, and is concerned that shady business dealings may have put his daughter's life in danger. Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) question Danny's mother, Diane (Ellen McLaughlin), who has a "strange story": she said she had breakfast with her son the day before but based on the medical examiner's findings, he was already dead.

An attractive young woman is found naked and stabbed to death in the elegant town house of Tony-winning composer John David Myers. His assistant, Margot Dalton, found the body and Myers is upstairs in complete shock. Briscoe and Green consider Myers a suspect, but also believe it could have been a burglar because of an unlocked window and dirt found on the carpet. The dead woman is an aspiring actress named Carrie Gunderson. She had attended a Broadway premiere where she met Myers, went to the after party with him, and then back to his place for drinks and sex.
