Hank Green
Hank Green was born William Henry Green II in Birmingham, AL, and was raised along with his older brother John in Orlando, FL. Green harbored an early interest in the sciences, and went on to study biochemistry at Eckerd College and to earn a Master's degree in environmental studies at the University of Montana. During his academic tenure, Green worked both as a web developer, notably for the University of Montana's school website, and as a writer. He contributed both to his own blog, EctoGeek, and to established websites including Mental Floss and publications like National Geographic and The New Yorker. In late 2006, brothers Hank and John devised the video blog project Brotherhood 2.0, which would entail them to communicate exclusively via video blogs throughout the duration of the following year. The videos were publicized on YouTube, where they began attracting the attention of the world beyond the Green family. The success of the yearlong project convinced the brothers to continue collaborating on video blogs; they retitled the endeavor VlogBrothers, and fostered an online fan community dubbed Nerdfighteria. Around this time, Green began branching out into a number of media. In 2008, he co-founded the e-commerce merchandise company DFTBA Records with Alan Lastufka. Two years later, the Green brothers presented the inaugural VidCon convention-a celebration of original internet video creation-in Los Angeles. By 2012, Green had become involved in series production. He and his brother developed the series "Crash Course" (YouTube 2012-) and "SciShow" (YouTube 2012-), both intended to serve as educational programming for young people interested in the sciences. He worked on web series including "The Lizzie Bennett Diaries" (YouTube 2012-13), "Emma Approved" (YouTube 2013-14), and "Frankenstein, MD" (YouTube 2014).
