As Antonio’s (Jon Seda) life is now in question, Voight (Jason Beghe) and Platt (guest star Amy Morton) open up about their pasts. Jin (Archie Kao) is caught while tinkering with Voight’s computer and uses the only scapegoat possible to keep him in the clear. At the same time with Charlie (guest star Billy Wirth) back in town Lindsay (Sophia Bush) realizes she’s going to have to come clean about a few things. Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) finally gets answers he’s been wanting about Voight’s and Olinsky’s (Elias Koteas) past.

Dr. Reese (Sarah DiPillo) is contacted for help by a troubled teen in a psychiatric facility and Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) tries to help parents make a decision about their comatose daughter's surprise pregnancy. April (Yaya DaCosta) begins to deal with repercussions from her personal life. Meanwhile, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) and Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) work to save both a young girl from Ecuador who collapsed mid-flight, as well as her mother, who made great sacrifices for her daughter. S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, Nick Gehlfuss, and Marlyne Barrett also star. Sophia Bush and Ato Essandoh guest star.

Kane grows increasingly infatuated with his new senior aide, Mona, allowing himself to get swept up in her passion for the subsidized housing project. Ben Zajac and his wife, Maggie, run the risk of alienating themselves from Kane when they take the reins of Zajac’s gubernatorial campaign.

Kane makes a professional turn to a new way of doing things when he extricates the housing project from the corruption that plagues his entire city. Kane’s young aide, Ian, has a threatening secret that he manages to hide from Kane. Kane tries to reconnect with wife, Meredith, and daughter, Emma, but his attempts at a harmonious family are disastrous.

In the series premiere episode, Teresa Colvin, the city’s first female superintendent, lobbies for a city corruption task force to investigate Alderman Ronin Gibbons, a building-magnate-turned-politician. Meanwhile, Colvin’s ex-partner and larger-than-life veteran of the Chicago Police Department, Jarek Wysocki, investigates a suspicious murder in Grant Park alongside his new partner Caleb Evers. Also in Jarek’s charge are his niece, Vonda Wysocki; her hotshot partner, Isaac Joiner; and Liam Hennessey, an Irish thug who blends in with the gritty world of local crime. Together, these cops stop at nothing to navigate the Windy City’s underbelly to fight crime and bring down Alderman Gibbons’ empire of corruption.
