The Cartwrights encounter racial bigotry in Virginia City and end up protecting a Chinese boy from mob violence. Victor Sen Yung, in his largest role to date, speaks normally in the presence of his fellow countrymen, but reverts to broken English when with the Cartwrights.
Bennett hires a gunman to shoot Earp who brags he has faced down Earp before. However, Earp doesn't know him so he suspects there is more to the gunman's story. After trying to determine who the gunman is, Earp decides he must face him.
When a young man has been wrongly accused of murdering his fiancé's father, Dale helps him escape from jail so they can prove his innocence.
Earp is forced with the help of Mr. Cousin to go into the rough Bushwhacker area to track down a man wanted for murder. The man says he is innocent and Earp begins to question his guilt when the man never attempts to kill him or Mr. Cousin.
The Dutch Henry gang is rustling cattle and killed ranch hands on some of the smaller ranches around Dodge City. Sheriff Bassett is sick and Deputy Tillman is gone so Earp and Bat decide to go undercover into the gang rather take a posse.
