Gérard Hernandez

While American audiences may not be familiar with Gérard Hernandez, he has established himself as a well-respected performer overseas with his more than 50-year career as a screen and voice actor. From the evil Skeletor, the arch nemesis of the heroic He-Man in the cartoon series "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," to Papa Smurf in the 2011 film adaptation of "The Smurfs," Hernandez has performed French dubbing voiceover work for projects of all genres since his first role as "The Flinstones"' Barney Laroche in 1966. In front of the camera, he is best known for his signature mustache, and has appeared in mostly supporting roles on screens big and small. Hernandez's TV career flourished in the '70s and '80s; he was a regular guest star on the popular game show "Les Jeux de 20 heures," and even landed his own hosting gig on "Les Affaires sont les affaires." The '90s and 2000s saw him taking on many single-episode appearances in TV series, and he portrayed Commissioner Perret on the tragi-comedy series "Père et Maire." But Hernandez's longest-running role came in 2009 when he was cast as retired cop Raymond in the satirical comedy series "Scènes de ménages," which follows the daily lives of three couples at different stages of marriage.
