Georgina Chapman

Georgina Chapman was a British fashion designer and actress who in 2004 co-founded the fashion label Marchesa, along with Keren Craig. Born in London and raised in the suburban town of Richmond, Chapman grew up in a relatively well-to-do family. Her father Brian Chapman was the co-owner of the Percol coffee brand, while her mother was a British journalist. As a young girl, Chapman gravitated towards art, and when she was 18 enrolled in the Chelsea College of Art and Design. While attending the school Chapman met a similarly-minded art obsessive named Keren Craig, and the two quickly became good friends. It was also during this time that Chapman began moonlighting as a model, having appeared in ad campaigns for big name brands like Head & Shoulders, among others. After graduating from art school Chapman re-teamed with her longtime friend Keren Craig to launch the fashion label Marchesa in 2004. The label, which was based in New York City, specialized in women's dresses and other clothing for the higher end market. The label quickly caught on with the Hollywood crowd, and was worn by various actresses, including Cameron Diaz, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Lopez. While her fashion label was taking off, Chapman also found the time to appear in small roles in movies throughout the 2000s. Her more notable film credits during this period include Woody Allen's "Match Point" (2005), Edie Sedgwick biopic "Factory Girl" (2006), and romantic comedy "The Nanny Diaries" (2007). In 2004 Chapman began dating the high-powered film producer/executive Harvey Weinstein. The two would later marry in 2007, but after an October 2017 bombshell investigative report by the New York Times revealed that Weinstein had allegedly sexually assaulted several young women, most of which were actresses, during his tenure as the co-founder of Miramax and The Weinstein Company, Chapman announced that she was divorcing Weinstein.
