Fred Roggin
Known for his energetic presence on air and on screen, sports broadcaster Fred Roggin was born in Detroit, Michigan. He would eventually grow up in Arizona, where he briefly attended Phoenix College. He dropped out however, to work as a DJ from eight PM to midnight on KIKO radio, where he would later go on to become a play-by-play sports announcer. After a few years, Roggin moved on to the Yuma station KBLU, where he became the station's sports director, anchor, and reporter. Then in 1980, Roggin found himself broadcasting to a much larger audience when he was hired at KNBC in California as a sports feature reporter. Within five years, Roggin's jovial style and deep working knowledge of the sports world found him taking on a national role as a sports anchor for NBC4. Over time, Roggin's boisterous personality made him a mainstay of the broadcast sports world. He began hosting the popular series "Roggin's Heroes" in 1991, which featured humorous sports highlights and commentary. He would act a sideline reporter for the XFL in 2001, and began hosting an afternoon sports radio show on California station KMPC the following year. Roggin would later take his talents to radio station KFWB/The Beast 980 in 2014, hosting "The Fred Roggin Show." The show continued until March 2016, at which time KFWB decided to discontinue its sports talk format. Roggin went on to join KLAC in August 2016, replacing Bill Reiter as co-host of the noon-to-3 p.m. show alongside Leeann Tweeden. In November 2017, it was announced that Roggin would be one of several Olympics reporters for NBC, and would provide curling coverage on CNBC for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
