Fred Applegate
American character actor Fred Applegate is best known on TV for his work in sitcoms like "Newhart" and plays such as "The Producers." A native of New Jersey, he graduated from Northwestern University and began his TV career as a regular on the dry-humored sitcom "Newhart" in 1983. The role lasted three years and 15 episodes and led to a recurring part on the adaptation "Nine to Five" in the late '80s. He had one of his few film roles in the 1990 sci-fi comedy "Spaced Invaders," before returning to a wealth of TV parts, including recurring stints on "Growing Pains," "Night Court," and the now-forgotten comedy set in a radio station, "FM." In a rare starring role, he appeared in the 1992 show "Woops!" The comedy, which lasted just 11 episodes, was about the last six people left in the U.S. after a nuclear attack. In addition to his many TV credits, he has appeared on stage in the Mel Brooks production of "Young Frankenstein," and in "The Producers" he was Max Bialystock in both the New York and London productions.
