Florian Lukas

A multiple-award-winning actor at a young age, blond Berliner Florian Lukas has proven to be one of the brightest acting talents to emerge in German cinema in the 21st century, with a fantastic supporting turn in "Goodbye, Lenin!" and a lead in "Gigantics." Cutting his teeth in theater at the Berliner Ensemble and Berlin's Deutsches Theater, Lukas segued into screen roles in the early and mid 1990s with various one-off TV parts and work in small features. Soon he began to play larger roles, first in director Sönke Wortmann's crime drama "St. Pauli Nacht," then in 1999 as would-be rapper Ricco in the Hamburg-set juvenile comedy "Gigantics." More TV work followed, until Lukas won the key role of an aspiring filmmaker in Wolfgang Becker's celebrated international hit tragicomedy, "Goodbye, Lenin! ." Lukas's work on the film won the 2003 German Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Throughout the remainder of the decade he mixed theater, television, and film work, and typically won acclaim for his performances, memorably as Andreas Hinterstoisser in the Alps-climbing historical epic "North Face" in 2008 and as Martin Kupfer, the lead in the 1980s East Berlin-set family TV miniseries "Weissensee."
