Elyes Gabel

While Elyes Gabel is through and through a British actor, born in London, he spent a chunk of childhood growing up in Canada. That experience gave him an edge when he returned back to the United Kingdom when he was older, as he studied drama and honed his craft. It wasn't necessarily easy, as his first role after he dropped out of drama school was playing a mummy on the children's TV show "I Love Mummy" (CBBC 2002-03). At that same time, he also appeared on the medical drama "Casualty" (BBC One 1986-), where he played different characters in one-off episodes over a few years. In 2004, he joined the cast full time as Gurpreet "Guppy" Sandhu. It was a role he owned until 2007, when he left the show to explore the world of other television shows and movies. He didn't immediately hit the big time following his departure from "Casualty," as his first film role was in the schlocky horror movie "Boogeyman 3" (2009). He did, however, keep on appearing in British shows, including a leading role in the mini-series "Identity" (ITV 2010) and a 10-episode run around the fourth season of "Waterloo Road" (BBC One 2006-). His 2011 appearance on the historical-fiction drama "The Borgias" (Showtime 2011-2013) led almost directly to his stint on the wildly popular "Games of Thrones" (HBO 2011-) as the Dothraki Rakharo. In 2013, he appeared in the summer blockbuster "World War Z" (2013) alongside Brad Pitt. Raising his profile considerably, he appeared in Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" (2014) and began starring as self-proclaimed computer genius Walter O'Brien in the TV show "Scorpion" (CBS 2014-).
