Ed Stoppard

Born in London, England, Ed Stoppard had pedigree to burn in the film and theater industry. His mother, Miriam Stoppard, was a respected advice columnist and author, and his father, Tom Stoppard, was one of the most decorated dramatists of the late 20th century. After a number of supporting roles on shows like "Relic Hunter" (Syndication, 1999-2002), and "Murder In Mind" (BBC One, 2001-03), the younger Stoppard got his first international exposure in a supporting role in the film "The Pianist" (2002). The film's success didn't immediately translate into starring roles for the young actor. He continued to toil in smaller supporting roles. He was a regular on the four-episode mini-series "Any Human Heart" (Channel 4, 2010), and finally landed a series regular role, as the man of the house on "Upstairs Downstairs" (BBC One, 2010-12), a sequel to the legendary series that ran in the early 1970s. When that show ended its run after two seasons, Stoppard continued to appear in supporting roles until his role as Dr. Will Campbell on the WWII set "Home Fires" (ITV, 2016). In 2017, it was announced that Stoppard would play King Philip on the History Channel series "Knightfall."
