Ed Gilbert

Ed Gilbert was a popular voice actor for various animated television programs and movies during the 1980s and 1990s, including Gen. Hawk in "G.I. Joe," Bodhe in "Gargoyles," and Francois in the Disney feature "The Rescuers Down Under." Gilbert is probably best known by animation fans for his turn as the loveable, bellowing bear Baloo from the show "TailSpin" in 1990 and 1991 and for his work as various characters in the cult hit "Transformers" from 1985 to 1987. Gilbert was not the original voice of Baloo for the classic Disney film "The Jungle Book" (that would be Phil Harris), but his work on "TailSpin" endeared him to fans of the boisterous bear. Before his work in animation in the 1980s, Gilbert served in the military during the Korean War, worked in various low-level jobs in Florida, and eventually caught the acting bu that led him to relocate to Hollywood. He worked in front of the camera in a number of feature films and television shows like the military dramas "Combat!," "Johnny Got His Gun," and a regular gig as the father of Joe and Frank Hardy on "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" program.
