Derek Lamar Fisher
An 18-season NBA veteran and coach, Derek Fisher is a renowned basketball player and currently the all-time NBA record holder for number of playoff games participated in. Born in Little Rock, Ark., Fisher was a letterman in basketball at Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School. He went on to major in communications at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and was a valuable player on the UALR basketball team, setting a school record for free throws and being honored as a Sunbelt Player of the Year during his senior year. From there, Fisher went on to a professional career with the NBA. He spent his first eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, playing for the team from 1996 to 2004. He followed this with stints for the Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz before returning to the Lakers for the 2007-2012 seasons. Following this, he went on to play for the Dallas Maverick and Oklahoma City Thunder. In 2014, Fisher was named head coach for the New York Knicks, a position he held until 2016. He has also served as president of the National Basketball Players Association. In 2017, Fisher took on a new challenge when he appeared as a contestant on the 25th season of "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2005-).
