Debbie Rochon

The B-movie refuses to die, and Debbie Rochon is one of its top "scream queens"--a diva of the cult horror film niche. The Canadian-born actress made her way to New York while still a teen and began her career doing classical as well as alternative stage work off-Broadway, but eventually found her way to film. Unless you're a B-movie fanatic or a horror film fetishist, the titles of Rochon's movies likely won't ring any bells, but she's a real force in her genre: Draculina magazine awarded her "Scream Queen of the Decade" honors for the '90s and beyond, no doubt for performances in horror films like "Santa Claws" and "Shriek of the Lycanthrope." After these camp classics it's not surprising that Rochon has acted in comedies as well, albeit similarly on the margins of the film industry. There was the comedy "Broadcast Bombshells" in '95, and the romantic comedy "Tromeo and Juliet" in '96, the latter directed by frequent collaborator Lloyd Kaufman, who directed the '06 cult comedy-horror classic "Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead," in which Rochon had a cameo. Rochon clearly has a more than passing love for her niche: she works for Fangoria Entertainment as both talent and radio show host, and writes for numerous publications, including Sirens of Cinema and Femmes Fatales. In 2010, Rochon was so busy she appeared in no less than 20 films, predominantly horror, with some action and comedy mixed in as well.
