David E. Talbert

American playwright David E. Talbert has proven prolific, penning more than a dozen plays, including the NAACP-honored drama "The Fabric of a Man." After numerous successes in theater, Talbert sought wider audiences with his first film effort, the indie drama "A Woman Like That," which he wrote, directed, and produced. As a triple threat, Talbert crafted a string of straight-to-DVD features intended primarily for African-American audiences. With each successive title, his following of devoted fans continued to grow. Not long after the screen adaptation of his award-winning play "The Fabric of a Man" hit DVD, Talbert was asked to serve as writer on the music and comedy filled special "Jamie Foxx: Unpredictable," which featured Jamie Foxx as well as Mary J. Blige, Common, and Snoop Dog. The gig expanded Talbert's reputation, and he followed it with his biggest movie to date, the 2008 crime comedy "First Sunday," which co-starred rapper-cum-leading man Ice Cube and comedian Tracy Morgan. The film, about a couple of desperate criminals who attempt to rob a church, opened far beyond expectations. "First Sunday" came in second at the box office that weekend, behind only the Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman buddy comedy "The Bucket List." In addition to Talbert's movie and theater credits, he has also published four novels.
