Dan Le Batard
Irreverent but passionate about sports, journalist Dan Le Batard shared his unique perspective in print and on the airwaves. Le Batard was born in Jersey City, N.J., to parents who fled Cuba to settle in the U.S. He had a younger brother, David, who would grow up to become a standout South Florida artist known as LEBO. While he and his brother were still young, their family moved to Miramar, Fla., in the Miami area, which became Le Batard's long-term home. He enrolled in the University of Miami and earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and politics in 1990. From there, he joined the Miami Herald and maintained a sports column for more than two decades. He teamed with Jon "Stugotz" Weiner, co-founder of Miami-based radio station WAXY, to co-host "The Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz" (2004-), a sports talk radio program. The pair were known for their lively, self-deprecating humor and odd gags that spiced up their commentary. Amid the jokes, Le Batard's approach would often dive into topics including race in sports and controversies surrounding athletes. He and Weiner took their show national on ESPN Radio in 2013. He began another talk show, this time on ESPN's television networks, called "Highly Questionable" (2011-), which he hosted with his father, Gonzalo "Papi" Le Batard. He also appeared on several other ESPN programs as a contributor, including "Outside the Lines" (1990-), "College GameDay" (1987-) and "Pardon the Interruption" (2001-). He won numerous Associated Press Sports Editor awards for his writing.
