Curt Menefee
Curt Menefee's lifetime career in sportscasting began in an unexpected way. Eager to get into television, he took an internship at CNN in Atlanta, where he met sports anchor Fred Hickman. Hickman talked him into moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attending his alma mater, Coe College. Although Coe had turned out a number of known sports figures, particularly coaches, it lacked a communications program. To make up for this, Menefee established himself with local broadcasting station KCRG, where he learned the ins and outs of athletic journalism from sports director John Campbell. Menefee graduated from Coe in 1987, moving away from Iowa to report for various radio and television programs in Jacksonville, Fla., Dallas and New York City. Starting in the late 1990s, he began providing play-by-play commentary for NFL games on Fox. He also provided commentary on boxing matches for the series "ShoBox: The New Generation" (Showtime, 2001-). In 2007, having firmly established himself in the world of sports news, he was brought onto the football pregame show "Fox NFL Sunday" (Fox, 1994-) as co-host, paired with fellow veteran sportscaster Terry Bradshaw. Menefee attributed the success of his Fox NFL pregame show to the close friendships that existed between his co-hosts and himself outside of the studio. He made an effort to exhibit his natural personality when giving commentary to provide viewers with an honest perspective. In 2016, Menefee published a book with sportswriter Michael Arkush, titled "Losing Isn't Everything," which examined noteworthy losses in sports history and included retrospective remarks from the athletes who lived through them.
