Craig Melvin

A broadcaster famous for his genial persona on screen, Craig Melvin was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Wofford College, where he majored in government and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He began his broadcasting career in 2001 at local South Carolina station WIS, where he worked as an anchor and reporter. He would stay with the station for seven years, eventually leaving in 2008 to become the weekend news reporter for WRC-TV. After just a few short years there, he moved on to the national stage, accepting a job as an anchor for NBC News and MSNBC. Melvin would cover several high profile news events for the network, including the Asiana Airlines flight 214 crash, the George Zimmerman trial, the massive tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, the tragic Sandy Hook mass shooting, and the West Fertilizer Company plant explosion. Additionally, Melvin began filling in as a co-host on "Weekend Today" (NBC, 1987-) in 2011, the same year that he married sports reporter Lindsay Czarniak. The two welcomed a son in 2014, prompting Melvin to speak publicly about the need for paid maternity and paternity leave. In 2016, Melvin became a full-time co-host on "Weekend Today."
