During Rachel's birthday party, Chandler accidentally lets it slip that Ross is in love with her. However, Ross is on his way to China to identify a bone for the museum. Monica is excited about becoming friends-in-law with her roommate but gets defensive when Rachel can't decide about whether she wants to be more than friends with Ross. But when she finally makes up her mind, it may be too late. Returning from China, with Rachel waiting at the gate, Ross is with another woman with whom he is obviously involved.

After Jake was exonerated, the scandal cost Keith his job, his home and his wife, and Veronica was ostracized by her friends, including her boyfriend, Duncan (series star TEDDY DUNN), Lilly's brother.

Will (Eric McCormack) and Grace (Debra Messing) become hooked on a real-life soap opera unfolding in their neighbors' apartment when they begin eavesdropping through the new heating vent in their floor. As Will and Grace live vicariously through the marital infidelities of the downstairs couple (guest stars Tom Sullivan and Corinne Bohrer), Jack (Sean Hayes) feels neglected and enlists Karen's (Megan Mullally) help in staging a play that drives the message home to his two best friends. Robert Curtis Brown and Jensen Daggett ('The Single Guy') guest-star as the stage actors who portray Will and Grace.
