Claudia Schiffer

One of the new breed of well-paid, seemingly ubiquitous fashion models in the 1990s known as "supermodels," Claudia Schiffer made a small part of her living by appearing in TV and movies. Born in small-town Germany, the tall, pretty blonde with the memorable stare was a perfect candidate for a modeling career. Her memorable look caught the attention of fashion superstar Karl Lagerfeld, who made her the new face of Chanel. Her subsequent appearance in a series of ads for Guess! Jeans cemented her status as an international celebrity. She was the first model to grace the cover of such mainstream publications as Rolling Stone and The New York Times. Like fellow supermodels Cindy Crawford and Christie Brinkley, she gravitated towards the world of entertainment as well. In movies, she was a knockout aerobics instructor in the 1994 comic book adaptation "Richie Rich" and in a more serious vein, played Greta in the race relations drama "Black and White" (1999). In 2002, she also did a two-episode turn on the relationship sitcom "Dharma & Greg." For the most part, though, she acted simply as herself in films such as the 2001 fashion business spoof "Zoolander" and in numerous TV talk show and series appearances. Other film credits include "Life Without Dick" (2002), "Love Actually" (2003) and "Helmut Newton: The Bad and the Beautiful" (2020).
