Carlos Rivas

A Mexican-American actor who worked both in Hollywood and Latin America throughout his long career, Carlos Rivas is best known for his role as Lun Tha in the musical, "The King and I." A native of Texas, Rivas began acting in Argentinean and Mexican Westerns in the 1940s and made his first appearance in a Hollywood film with an uncredited part in "Comanche," in 1956. His most memorable role came in the epic musical, "The King and I," starring Yul Brynner playing the lover of Rita Moreno's character, Tuptim. Following that career peak, Rivas appeared mostly in low-budget films and had small parts on TV series. He co-starred in "The Beast of Hollow Mountain" and had a supporting role--alongside Rita Moreno once again--in the adventure film, "The Deerslayer." He co-starred in the B-movie, "The Black Scorpion" in 1957 and had a supporting role in the period drama, "The Miracle," in 1959. He co-starred as Grey Wolf in the Western, "The Dalton that Got Away," in 1960, then mostly appeared on TV in shows like "Daniel Boone," Mannix," and in the 1980s, "The A-Team." He also had small parts in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller, "Topaz," and the John Wayne Western, "True Grit."
