When an assistant district attorney is found murdered and sexually assaulted in Central Park, Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) narrow their probe to a realtor (guest star Bruce Kirkpatrick) with a history of date-rape and a need to humiliate powerful women -- and Stabler worries that a combative Benson may be his next victim. The key to the case rests with the suspect's business partner (guest star Allison Mackie) who can validate his alibi, but in the meantime, a seething Benson hopes to best him in an intense game of one-on-one in the interrogation room. Richard Belzer, Dann Florek, Dean Winters and Michelle Hurd also star.

A young boy, Henry Morton (Max Iles), disappears from a child's birthday party. His mother is horrified and there is a "pull out all the stops" search for his abductor. They are determined to find this boy alive. The detectives initiate a massive search, but are disrupted by Malcolm Wolinsky (Bruce Kirkpatrick), an advocate against child molesters who often takes the law in his own hands. Captain Cragen (Dann Florek) warns him to leave the case alone, and threatens to charge him with obstruction if he interrupts again. Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) are questioning Henry's parents when Jake O'Hara (Jordan Garrett), the Morton's 13-year-old neighbor, claims a man in a dark car was following Henry. The trail leads to convicted child molester Billy Turner (P.J. Brown) and Wolinsky is right there when he's picked up.

Carlos Torres is found dead in his jail cell and had only been there for eight hours. The murder is initially thought to be gang-related but the Medical Examiner explains that he was sodomized, rupturing his colon, and the attack happened while he was in police custody. Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Fin (Ice-T) are dispatched to retrace Torres' whereabouts before he was brought to Rikers, and he was at the 26th Precinct and their first stop is questioning officers, Les Cooper (Terry Serpico) and Randall Grant (Jason Catalano). Their supervisor says Cooper is dangerous and likes to rough up suspects, so Benson and Fin find the two cops. There was a third cop that night, Luke Edmunds (William Mapother), who was hit in the head by Torres and he is out on medical leave. All indications are that the cops arrived at a local gang hangout, found Torres then roughed him up.

Season Five premiere. As McNulty and the detail continue staking out Marlo's crew, recently promoted Sergeant Carver is welcomed by a cauldron of discontent from officers coping with unpaid overtime. Though he wants to keep his campaign promise to lower crime, Mayor Carcetti is strapped by his commitment to schools, and faces some tough choices. Col Cedric Daniels is forced to reallocate his resources, retaining Freamon and Sydnor for the Clay Davis probe. Meanwhile, City Editor Haynes and the staff of a local newspaper are reeling from corporate cutbacks, losing key personnel from both the metro and international divisions. Still, with the help of reporters Gutierrez, Price and Templeton, Haynes is able to break a front-page story that links a politician to a co-op drug dealer. Proposition Joe, Marlo, Fatface Rick others meet in a hotel conference room to discuss divvying up drug frontiers across East Baltimore's county line.

Although he tells Sydnor the Davis investigation could be a 'career case,' Freamon keeps a wary eye out for Marlo, who takes care of some unfinished business and strikes a business deal with Barksdale. Carcetti throws the police a bone by removing the cap on secondary employment, sending the detectives into fantasy-job reveries. With an eye on the state house, Chief of Staff Steintorf tries to find good news for the mayor while blaming the Royce administration for the Campbell revelation. Davis turns to Burrell for help with his problem, but the commissioner's hands are tied. At the newspaper, Executive Editor Whiting outlines a Pulitzer-worthy series in broad strokes, trumping Haynes while liberating the ambitious Templeton. Fed up with broken-down cars and unsolved serial murders, McNulty decides to take matters into his own hands.
