Bronte Campbell

It can certainly be said that athletics run in the family of swimmer Bronte Campbell. She and her sister Cate accomplished many of their most stunning victories side-by-side, both of them becoming stars of their chosen sport. Born in Malawi, Campbell's family relocated to Australia in 2001, when she was just seven years old. Campbell joined the Indooroopilly Swimming Club in Brisbane that same year, quickly discovering a major talent for a sport she loved. There, she met the man who would become her coach throughout her career, Simon Cusack. By 2009, Campbell won gold in the 50-metre freestyle at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival. She won the same event at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival the following year. A bout with a debilitating virus had her on the sidelines in 2011, but by 2012, Bronte and Cate were emerging at the 2012 London Olympics as the first pair of sisters to compete against each other at an Olympic swimming event since 1972. Bronte came in ninth in the 50-meter freestyle, though she would go on to win silver in both the 50 and the 100 meter at the Australian Swimming Championships the following year. Before long, Campbell qualified to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games, once again facing off against her sister at the event.
