Bethany Mota

Video blogger Bethany Mota was homeschooled for much of her life. She went to public school from third grade through sixth grade and speaks openly about her years as a young teenager facing cyberbullying. Mota started her YouTube channel under the name Macbarbie07 in 2009. She grew to prominence showcasing her "haul" videos, short videos where she showed viewers the fashion and style pieces that she had purchased. In addition to showing the items she bought, Mota uploaded outfit ideas as well as various hair and makeup tutorials. Mota says she began her work on YouTube in order to cope with the stress of being bullied online. Mota's videos became successful fairly quickly, and soon, as haul videos began to gain prominence online, she was offered gifts and promotional items from retailers seeking to use the space for advertisements. It was estimated by Business Insider in January 2014 that Mota was earning upwards of $40,000 per month in revenue from her videos. Following her online success Mota partnered with companies like J.C. Penney and Forever21 as well as developing a line of accessories, fragrances and apparel with retail chain Aeropostale. Mota also released a single in 2014 and in 2015 stated that she was considering releasing a full album.
