Bert Convy

Bert Convy

Amiable, curly-haired musical comedy performer and game-show host who started out as a first baseman with the Philadelphia Phillies' farm club one day after graduating from high school. He played for two years before quitting to perform with a rock band called the Cheers. Convy appeared in ten Broadway shows, most notably as the Christopher Isherwood character in the Kander and Ebb musical "Cabaret," as the intellectual revolutionary Perchik in the Bock-Harnick musical "Fiddler on the Roof" and as ace reporter Hildy Johnson in the 1969 Robert Ryan revival of "The Front Page." Convy was perhaps best known as the affable host of such game shows as "Tattletales," "Win, Lose or Draw" and "Super Password" which kept him visible on U.S. TV sets through the 1970s and '80s.
