Detective Stabler (Christopher Meloni) finds himself paired with a brusque and opinionated cop, John "Hawk" Hawkins (guest star David Keith), who has become embittered with his job and personal life. The two work to capture a serial rapist/murderer whom Hawk originally nabbed years ago, but the more they learn about the new crimes he's suspected of, the more apparent it becomes that the recently released convict is not the culprit -- leading Hawk to realize that he may have convicted the wrong man.

When a young woman is found strangled and dumped in a local swimming hole, Rush and the detectives realize that this new crime mirrors the unsolved murder of a 12-year-old girl who was killed in 1990 during a sleepover at the home of troubled teenager, Brandi.

Late at night in San Francisco, a burglar carefully wipes his feet before breaking into a house. The man of the house, a sports agent named Rob Sherman, greets the burglar. The burglar is there as part of an insurance scam the two men concocted together. The burglar would "steal" some expensive sports memorabilia from the house, and the two men would split the insurance money later. But Sherman has a bigger plan, and surprises the burglar by pulling out two guns. Sherman shoots the burglar with one gun, and when Sherman's wife comes downstairs, he shoots her with the other gun! Sherman then calmly arranges the scene before calling 911.

Thirteen-year-old Daisy Thorpe (Ashley Rose Orr) goes missing in a small upstate New York town that remains shaken by the unsolved murder of the local cleric's 13-year-old daughter, Amber (Megan Lusk), seven years ago. The team tries to determine if the same person is responsible for both crimes. As Martin and Danny work from the office, Jack and Samantha are forced to contend with the town's territorial and ineffective local sheriff, whose lead suspect for both cases is Curtis Horne (John Krasinski), the lowlife boyfriend of the murdered girl. The team wonders if the missing Daisy may have gotten too close to the truth of Amber's murder when the agents discover that she recently hounded Reverend Isaac Bryce (Randy Oglesby - "Enterprise") to discuss his now-deceased daughter. Daisy was obsessed with and outraged by the fact that Amber's killer had never been found. Meanwhile, Vivian remains home for health reasons, and Martin and Samantha's relationship reaches a defining moment.

While spotting Maris on the balance beam, Addie accidentally causes Maris to fall and sprain her wrist.  The only way Maris will forgive her is if she helps her win the "Miss Beauty 'N Brains" beauty pageant.
