Asher Book

Asher Monroe Book was born in Arlington, VA. By the age of 11, Book discovered a love for performing. He began his acting career in 2000, as Prince Edward Tudor in a touring musical production of Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper." This soon led the young actor to try out at an open casting call for the stage version of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" (1991), although he ultimately did not get cast.Book's first big break finally came in 2004 when he starred alongside Gary Cole in the ABC Family original movie "Pop Rocks," appearing as Liam, the son of a heavy metal rock star. The movie also gave Book the opportunity to showcase his vocal talent, recording the song "I Want To Be Your Man" for the soundtrack. His other musical abilities included playing bass and electric guitar. A year later, Book was cast in the independent film release "Come Away Home" (2005). In 2006, while Book was in his freshman year of college studying business, he got a call to audition for the musical group V Factory, produced by former pop singer and Warner Bros. Records VP of A&R, Tommy Page. V Factory also included members Jared Murillo, Wesley Quinn, Nick Teti and Nathaniel Flatt. The group would not disclose what the "V" stood for, but their pop/R&B/dance musical style was reminiscent of late-Nineties boy bands such as NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys. "None of us ever dreamed we would be in a boy band," Book said. "We're all from different parts of the country, with different backgrounds." V Factory released their EP These Are The Days in 2008, followed by the dance single "Love Struck," released in April 2009. While the single received some radio airplay, the group never took off quite like their Nineties predecessors did.Fans of V Factory also wondered if the band parted ways when Book was announced to star in "Fame," released in September 2009. The film was a modern-day "reinvention" of the 1980 movie that focused on a group of artistic and talented students of New York City's The High School of Performing Arts. Book stated he was not leaving the group and that his band mates supported him throughout the filming. The actor played Marco, the romantic lead opposite Kay Panabaker's Jenny. Joining the cast of up-and-comers were seasoned actors Debbie Allen (who was also in the original), Kelsey Grammer, and Megan Mullally. Book said it was an honor to work alongside some really great performers, and to finally showcase his acting and musical abilities onscreen.
