Arnold Oceng
British actor Arnold Oceng was born in Uganda, but was raised in the rough and tumble neighborhood of Brixton in south London. He began acting at the age of 6 and by 1999 had landed a regular role on British television mainstay "Grange Hill" (BBC 1978-2008), where he played Calvin Braithwaite. Oceng departed the series in 2004, and in 2006 appeared in another series "Casualty" (BBC 1986-), as Solomon Lakah. Oceng followed this role up with work in several other TV series, including "The Bill" (BBC 2007) and "Sold" (BBC 2007). In 2014 Oceng was cast as Mamere in American feature film "The Good Lie," starring Reese Witherspoon. The film tells the story of a group of Sudanese refugees forced to escape on foot from their war-torn country. The young people escape to America but continue to struggle psychologically with the post-traumatic consequences of the violence they left behind. Oceng was praised tremendously for his portrayal of Mamere, a role he felt compelled to pursue given his own status as a refugee living in the U.K. In 2015 Oceng was cast in the film "Circle of Revenge" and in the TV movie "Johnny: The Life of an Oxymoron."
