After graduating from Norfolk Academy, at which she earned designation as the institution's soccer team's all-time top scoring player, Hucles enrolled at the University of Virginia in 1996. Hucles likewise became the college's all-time top scorer during her tenure, and achieved all-ACC status all four years. She graduated in 2000 and instantly joined the Hampton Road Piranhas, and then the Boston Breakers one year later. In 2002, Hucles began competing with the United States women's national soccer team, participating in the 2003 Women's FIFA World Cup and the 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2005, Hucles joined the Boston Renegades, though returned to the Boston Breakers the following year. Throughout, she maintained her alliance with the USWNT, with whom she returned to the Women's FIFA World Cup in 2007 and the Summer Olympics in 2008. In 2009, Hucles officially retired from playing soccer professionally. In the years following her leave from the sport, Hucles worked with the U.S. Department of State to provide athletic opportunities to underprivileged youths across the globe, as well as with the organization You Can Play, which was founded to deter homophobia in the athletic realm. In 2015, Hucles took office as president of the non-profit organization Women's Sports Foundation.
