Deacon discovers that Kirby wants to quit his football team and asks Doug to be his assistant coach in order to show Kirby what the spirit of the game is all about. Doug makes a deal with Kirby that if he'll continue to play football, Doug will try out for the Rebels, a semi-pro football team. Against Carrie's wishes, Doug recruits Danny to be his personal trainer who tricks him into thinking he's in better shape than he actually is.

Lois accompanies Malcolm to his first college visit, where she clashes with a resident advisor; Reese pretends he's a drug user to woo a pretty narcotics officer; Francis and Otto open their own childcare center; and Dewey constructs his own musical instrument.

When a co-worker at the fast-food restaurant where she works comes up missing, Buffy begins to fear that the “secret ingredient” in the hamburgers is something altogether too human.

Betty, fed up with Daniel, Christina and Henry and how they've all disappointed her, does her best to avoid all three. Meanwhile, love's all around at Mode, as Alexis gets asked out on her first date as a woman; Amanda begins a flirtation with a designer (guest star Mykel Shannon Jenkins) who she assumes is gay; Wilhelmina struggles to deal with the tireless advances of her latest conquest, and Hilda gets a surprise from Santos (guest star Kevin Alejandro). Meanwhile, Daniel goes it alone in dealing with the aftermath of his one-time hook-up with Petra.

Claire is seduced by Billy's lust for life but hits a roadblock trying to fund the next leg of her educational journey; George is haunted by visions of an early trauma; Brenda feels at home with her new supervisor Jackie; David and Keith meet a fertile young woman named Mary; Vanessa encourages Rico to mingle, so he does--at a funeral directors' conference.
