Wuthering Heights
This tale is set on the moors of Northern England, secluded from the rest of society, during the early years of the 19th century. Lockwood, a forlorn traveler, arrives at Wuthering Heights seeking respite from a horrendous storm as he travels to his rented property, Thrushcross Grange. Nelly Dean, a faithful housemaid who has spent her life serving both houses, secretly offers him a room in direct opposition to her orders. As strange events of the night unfold, Nelly shares the tale of Heathcliff, a rescued gypsy child who many years ago forged an unbreakable bond with Cathy Earnshaw, the daughter of the owner of Wuthering Heights. Upon learning that the love of his life, Cathy, will marry the gentleman of Thrushcross Grange, Heathcliff mysteriously disappears for a number of years. Upon his return, Heathcliff is determined to have his revenge; he marries the sister of Cathy's husband, and begins to ruin the lives of both families. Heathcliff and Cathy’s continuing stormy and impassioned romance deteriorates into obsession, leaving two households at odds and searching desperately for love, stability, and a sense of belonging in the secluded English countryside.
