Winny
Should the artisan who crafted a knife used in a murder be arrested? This film is based on the true story of men who fought against political power and media to protect the future and rights of developers. In 2002, Isamu Kaneko (Masahiro Higashide) created the file-sharing software "Winny" and released a trial version on 2channel. "Winny" appeared like a comet online, allowing direct data exchange between users and quickly gained popularity. However, many illegal uploads of movies, games, music, etc led to a surge in illicit downloads among young people, which gradually became a societal issue. As individuals involved in copyright violation were successively arrested, Kaneko was also suspected of facilitating and supporting copyright infringement and was arrested in 2004. Following the news of Kaneko's arrest, Lawyer Toshimitsu Dan (Takahiro Miura), expert in cybercrime, takes up his defense.Advocating for the unwarranted arrest by the police throughout the trial, they face a guilty verdict in the first instance. However, as the threads of fate intersect, the story unfolds into a case that echoes around the world. Why was a brilliant developer crushed by Japan's authorities?
