Westward the Women
California, 1850s. A wealthy rancher dreams of a normal life for himself and his ranch hands, for which the men will need wives. So, in a time when travel across North America is difficult and hazardous, the men send for mail order brides in Westward the Women. Roy Whitman (John McIntire) and his foreman, Buck Wyatt (Robert Taylor), travel to Chicago where they find 140 ladies desperate enough to make the harrowing journey to marry men they have never met. Although the men need 100 women, Roy and Buck estimate the only two out three women will survive the journey--and the trail proves them correct. But during the trek, with sudden death as their constant companion, the women learn to ride, shoot and work together to survive in this moving story of people willing to face overwhelming adversity to build a better life.
